In Puistokatu 4’s second year, our community built an ecologically sustainable future with 64 researchers and agents and our events were attended by around 1500 people. Even more important than the numbers has been the magic of togetherness that has been felt in Puistokatu. See below for a photo gallery of our highlights of 2024!
In 2024, 58 events were held at Puistokatu 4, attended by almost 1500 people. In December, we had a long-awaited guest when Minna Salami came to give a lecture at Puistokatu.
The Biodiversity Leadership Course was held twice in 2024. Top ecologists Anna-Liisa Laine and Tomas Roslin trained more than 60 Nordic executives from major companies on the importance of natural capital for business.
It was a year of two elections at Puistokatu 4 as well. The candidates for president and European elections were asked the same question: if you were elected, how would you promote a good life within the planetary boundaries?
Some of the topics discussed at Puistokatu 4’s events were the role of academia, education and the media in the sustainability transition. The photo shows the pioneer of ecological economics, Robert Costanza , who visited us in the beginning of the summer.
Puistokatu 4 was a partner of Helsinki Pride, Helsinki Book Fair and the Love & Anarchy Film Festival. In conjunction with Pride, an event named Queer Academia was held at our premises.
In a collaboration with the Helsinki International Film Festival, two sold-out screenings of Virpi Suutari’s documentary Once Upon a Time in a Forest were shown at Puistokatu 4. Photo by Iida-Liina Linnea.
Our new concept, the Puistokatu 4 Afters kicked off in August with a visit from Jenni Rotonen , the Sustainability Influencer of the Year.
Puistokatu 4’s concepts were piloted for the first time outside Finland’s borders. A Good Life Within the Planetary Boundaries discussion was held at the Embassy in Beijing in February.
During the year, the library of Puistokatu 4 hosted four art exhibitions. The photo shows the opening of Noora Geagea’s and Moe Mustafa’s 1 minute exhibition.
In 2024, the membership of Puistokatu 4 consisted of 44 researchers and 20 agents . The photos is from the opening party of the balcony season in April.
During Thursday morning coffee breaks, members of our community presented their work that builds an ecologically sustainable future. Throughout the year, we heard presentations on marketing, philosophy, architecture and more.
The Researcher Lunch’s was attended by 50 curious visitors who were inspired by the work of our researchers. In the photo, political scientist Mikko Vesterinen and climate policy adviser Pauliina Jalonen are having a lunch.
The work of our members also spread beyond the walls of the house through the new Conversations from the Puistokatu 4 series. Opinion pieces based on the discussions were also published regularly in Helsingin Sanomat newspaper.

The members of Puistokatu 4 received several awards and recognitions again this year. Johannes Roviomaa , our researcher member, was named Freelance Journalist of the Year.
The ever-growing alumni network at Puistokatu 4 gathered together for the first time in June.
The highly popular restaurant Elm served full tables for the third summer in a row at the bottom floor of Puistokatu 4.
A total of 19 groups were introduced to Puistokatu 4 during the year. Five of the groups came from abroad.
In 2024, the premises of Puistokatu 4 were rented 88 times for the builders of an ecologically sustainable future.
Children were also taken into account at Puistokatu 4 this year: around 150 babies visited our library mornings organised together with HelsinkiMissio and more than ten children spent Childrens’ Day at Work at Puistokatu 4.
